Sagittarius Drummers Playlist

It’s Sagittarius season, which means it’s time to learn about some Sagittarius drummers. As a female drummer myself, I’ve been slightly bothered by the male heavy energy in these playlists. While yes, drumming is a male dominated instrument, there are many fantastic chick drummers out there – many of which happen to be Sagittarians.

In this post, we will focus on these bad ass Sagittarius lady drummers…sorry boys! But if you would rather skip the reading and listen to the Sagittarius Drummers Playlist, go ahead and click to skip ahead.

Sagittarius Drummers – Girl Power Quotes

Athena Kottak (Lee) 12-8-1964 (Hardly Dangerous, Butt Trumpet, Femme Fatale, and Kottak)

“Keep playing. And if there’s a boy playing next to you, kick ass and play harder.”

Source: Athena’s interview in Modern Drummer Magazine. We can also see from this interview that Sagittarians have an outspoken zest for life, and are not afraid to speak their minds.

Jen Ledger 12-8-1989 (Skillet)

“But I’m not dead yet, so watch me burn

Go on trying, lying, you’re so sure

I may be broken, but I’m not done

I’ll go on fighting while there’s breath in my lungs

‘Cause I’m not dead yet”

Source: This lyric was written and sung by Jen but actually came from a song called Not Dead Yet by her band Ledger. While this might not be a Sagittarius drummer song, I’d still like to shout out the drummer – who I think, is Jalon Richard. I couldn’t confirm nor find his birthday, so if you know it, please comment below so I can add this song to a drummers playlist.

Meg White 12-10-1974 (The White Stripes)

“You know, when I hear music, I just hear the whole thing.”

Source: I saw a few articles on Meg White, but most of them were bashing on her drumming skills, and frankly – that pissed me off. So here is a Meg White quote I found in this article from American Songwriter. I love this quote because I’ve always told people I hear the drums when I listen to music, but this makes me consider what I really hear when I listen. I don’t have to focus on the beat all of the time. Instead, I can tap into my Sagittarius side, open my mind, and really listen to everything.

Sheila E 12-12-1957

“watching my dad play every single day in the house, he played to vinyl to LP, the records and brought music in the house. And then his friends happened to be incredible musicians. Growing up in the bay area, in Oakland, San Francisco, – everyone was from there. Carlos Santana, Grateful Dead, these people were coming to our house and we would be able to jam with them.”

Source: Paraphrased from this video of Sheila on the Drew Barrymore Show. As you can see, Sheila’s relationship with her dad was a pivotal piece of her musical journey. From her birth chart (below), we can see Saturn conjunct the Sun in the eleventh house. In any birth chart, Saturn and the Sun are prominent planets we can look at to tell us more about a persons relationship with their father. So with her daddy planets in the eleventh house (the house of friendships and networks), it makes since that her fathers friends played such an impactful role in her life.

Sheila E's birth chart. We are focusing on Saturn at 20 degrees Sagittarius and the Sun at 17 degrees Sagittarius. Using the whole house system, these planets are placed in the eleventh house.

Tennessee Thomas 12-17-1984 (The Like, Nice as Fuck)

“Art and music have a community element that I associate with activism. The arts bring people together to experience emotions, provoke ideas, play and celebrate collectively.”

Source: In this article, A Moment With Tennessee Thomas, she discusses the link between activism and art. As an outspoken Sagittarius drummer, it’s natural for her to be drawn to activism and ultimately to make difference with her words as well as her beats.

Elijah Wood 12-19-1996 (Shania Twain)

“Most of the things that have happened to me are a result of some random series of events. I put myself in a position where something like that could become possible.”

Source: During Elijah’s gretsch.com interview, her Jupiterian nature shines through. Sagittarius is ruled by Jupiter (the planet of luck and abundance), so it’s interesting to see Elijah comment on the “random series of events” that have led her on her musical journey. We can see in all of our Sagittarius drummers that there is a sense of adventure and wonder, that ultimately helps them grow into their best selves.
