In this article, we will discuss The Moon (Pisces) and The Hermit (Virgo) tarot cards as well as the Sun in Pisces and the Full Moon in Virgo. Before we get to the technical definitions of the Pisces/Virgo axis though, we will connect with this energy through the story of Virgil The Lone Wolf. The lone wolf archetype is complex, yet enticing. The strength it takes to live alone is admirable. Along with strength though, one has to have a sense of intelligence and resourcefulness (the Hermit/Virgo); as well as raw instinct (the Moon/Pisces) in order to truly survive on their own.
Virgil The Lone Wolf
Virgil was an odd wolf who liked to travel alone. His family always wanted him to stay with the pack though. They said they were afraid for his well being when he would wander off on his own. They felt that not only was a lone wolf unnatural, but also that Virgil would be happier and safer with them. To Virgil, this was not the case. Virgil knew what they really wanted. His family said they wanted him to be happy, but what they really wanted was another minion to help hunt and feed the pack. The more wolves, the less vulnerable the group.
Practically, Virgil understood the danger of being a lone wolf. Yet something inside him felt that there was more to life than simply hunting and surviving. What about living? He often wondered. Beyond practicality, Virgil had his own deep sense of feeling that craved expression.
Why don’t wolves ever cry WITH the Moon? Wolves are always crying TO the Moon, Virgil thought. When the Moon is bright and illuminating the night, wolves get to work. The pack has to take advantage of this light and prey on the weak so that they can feed. Ultimately, when the Moon is full, the wolves own the night. Virgil wonders what it would be like to sit back and soak up the Moons beauty instead.
Work is uninspiring for lone wolves like Virgil. Every time the sky lights up with the Moons aura, the wolf pack kicks in their killer instincts. But what about love? Virgil often wondered. What about rest? Why do we constantly obsess with killing the weak and taking all the power. What gives us the right? And what does that power give us, anyway? Virgil’s heart started racing as he asked himself these questions. What does an innocent bunny rabbits life force actually give me? “Really? Ooh I killed a tiny rabbit, look at me. I own the night! I’m so strong!” Virgil mocked.
Virgil doesn’t want to own the night with his pack anymore. He’s tired of always chasing power and control. He’s tasted strength, acted responsibly, fed his family, and followed the rules. Virgil is ready for something deeper. He just wants to love the night – not own it. Virgil wants to show the Moon the respect and the love she’s always shown him. He wants to pay her back for all the times she has lit him up when he thought the darkness and self doubt was going to eat him alive.
Sprinting into the thick darkness between the trees, Virgil’s lonesome journey of self discovery begins.
The Moon: Pisces Tarot Card

Virgil’s instincts are kicking in. It’s dark and he’s afraid. Is he afraid of the dark or is he afraid of his own power? Maybe he’s afraid of what he might do when the fear becomes too much to handle? When the moonlight finally shines down and he see’s what he’s capable of, Virgil becomes even more afraid. At least in the dark things are blurry, he thought.
It’s too dark to tell where one line ends and another begins. But when the full moonlight shines through the cloudy sky, Virgil is illuminated. Virgil is exposed for who he truly is under the bright white light. Because of this exposure, he looks around frantically. Everything he has ever done is on display, but is anyone around to see it? At least the Moon is only fully illuminated for a few days, right? Then the light will slowly fade and the pain of his sickening past will seep away. But will Virgil’s pain every truly fade on this lonesome journey? Virgil will always remember the bad things he has done. What if his past actions never escape him, even when he’s alone?
The Hermit: Virgo Tarot Card

When Virgil is alone, his memories do not fade; but, the fear of judgment from the pack is gone. “It’s just you and me Moon,” Virgil calls out. “I see me. I know I messed up. But I know no one else has to suffer when I’m alone. They are better off without me, I know it!”
Virgil recognizes that the wolves he has hurt can heal when he gives them space. Even if they will never forget the hurt he has caused them, he knows his presence will only make things worse.
When the clouded hue of the Moon encompasses Virgil once again, he feels uneasy, but safe. Comfortably numb may be the words to express the feeling. Then out of nowhere, the clouds part, and the light floods through him, illuminating the deepest, darkest parts of himself that he was trying to hide from the world. Virgil runs, taking off into a deep sprint as he tries to escape the haunting feelings of shame and guilt.
Can one outrun shame and guilt? Can the dark depths of the forest help one forget their mistakes? Hoping the answer is yes, Virgil keeps running. When his breath finally runs out and all four legs give way, he collapses to the damp grassy floor and faces up towards the Moon. The Moon stares back at him. She’s bright, but is once again blocked ever so slightly by a wispy bunch of clouds. Virgil knows even through the mist that she’s disappointed in him.
“You can’t run away from your mistakes”, the Moon scolds Virgil. “You have to look at them. I’m lighting you up because I need you to observe what you’ve done. Wolves are just as sensitive as the ‘weak’ woodland creatures you are tired of killing. You must kill in order to feed, and there is no shame in that. Your pack loves you, even though your actions hurt them sometimes.”
“Virgil, I hope on this lonesome journey you discover that in order to heal, you have to take responsibility and stop running from your internal world. When you stop and take a look at your illuminated shadow side, you will see that you are a wolf. You will see that you did what you did for a reason. Take a serious look at yourself in this moment and you will find love and healing within. Venturing out alone is necessary for self discovery, but it is not safe in the long term. Virgil the Lone Wolf, release your pain now and head back to your pack when you are ready.”

How Virgil’s Lonesome Journey relates to this Virgo Full Moon
I believe it’s in the Hermit tarot card that we find reason and it’s in the Moon tarot card that we see our raw instincts. We can’t always explain our actions, but we know we do bad things sometimes, for some reason. Like Virgil the Lone Wolf, we can see that going on a Hermit’s journey and reflecting upon our past actions is scary. We don’t always like what we find, but without tapping into the analytical Virgo parts of ourselves, the deep and sensitive Pisces parts can take over and cause pain. Likewise, without that emotional Pisces part, the analytical Virgo part can criticize everyone with a lack of accountability and empathy.
Earth balances water. Practicality balances raw emotion. Logic balances feelings. The Sun in Pisces and Full Moon in Virgo are lighting up that delicate balance between empathy and criticism in all of our charts right now. These signs are showing us that we need both to survive. Sometimes we have to be like Virgil the Lone Wolf and take our feelings and run. It’s then that we realize the practical needs we have as humans. For the most part, we can’t explain why we did what we did in our pasts; we get too wrapped up in our feelings.
With that said, this Virgo Full Moon, we have to stop and analyze what we’ve done/what we are doing going forward. We have to see that we are capable of hurting others, even if we didn’t mean to. We have to see that we are capable of hurting ourselves as well. It’s not always “us against the world”; rather, it’s us against ourselves. Once we come to terms with this, we can forgive ourselves and find ways to move on.
Virgo Full Moon Medicine
Feel. Observe. Both are valid and necessary at this time. Honor whatever you need in this moment, even if you need to be alone to find it. Whatever lights up at this time and reveals itself to you, acknowledge that. Don’t run from it. See what needs to be seen, feel it, accept it as your own, then release it.
Spending less time running from and more time deepening your connection with the Moon, can provide great balance. Also check out the Virgo part of your natal chart to find the best way to personally connect to this Full Moon. For example, if you have Virgo in the second house, get clear on your old values and try to release the ones that no longer serve you.

PS: No lie, this Drake and Future song started playing when I was editing this post. Is this song where I got the name Virgil? The world may never know. lol
