A Big List of Sagittarius Artists (and a playlist)

This past month, our firewall has decided to block Spotify after every couple of songs I play. Typically, I listen to the songs (or at least snips of them) before adding them to the playlists. With these fun firewall challenges though, I’ve been trusting in Spirit and adding songs without even listening to them. I just search for Sagittarius musicians, judge their songs by the title, then hope they are good! Sagittarius is associated with faith, adventure, and risk taking, so it’s only fitting that these themes were channeled in order to build this list of Sagittarius artists and this playlist.

Birth Chart Bonus: Janelle Monáe

Janelle Monáe's Birth Chart in the whole house system. Born December 1, 1982 at 12:01 AM in Kansas City MO. Highlights include her Sagittarius Sun in the 5th house, Gemini Moon in the 10th house, Virgo Rising.

Many of the Sagittarius artists in this list are free-spirited, and Janelle Monáe is no exception. In fact, they have a five planet stellium in Sagittarius in their fourth house. Aka, Janelle has very strong Sag energy. In this short but powerful LA Times article, we can see their naturally open-minded nature as they reflect on their identity. “But I just see everything that I am beyond the binary. When I see people, I see your energy first — I don’t see how you identify — and I feel like that opens you up to fall in love with any beautiful spirit.”

Another interesting thing to note is Janelle’s large Baptist family. The fourth house represents family and home life, while Sagittarius, ruled by Jupiter, represents expansion and growth (often spiritual growth). With their Chiron in Taurus in the ninth house of philosophy though, it’s apparent that organized religion is a challenging subject for Janelle. Despite their religious upbringing, Janelle is attracted to energy and the spirit that flows through all humans, regardless of gender.

With this in mind, you can read more about Janelle’s family life in this Rolling Stones article.

Birth Chart Bonus: Aaron Carter

Beyond his four planet stellium in Sagittarius, one thing that stands out to me in Aaron’s chart is that Uranus is conjunct his Ascendant, while Chiron is conjunct his Descendant. Uranus is the planet of rebellion and chaos, while Chiron is an asteroid associated with inner child wounds and how one can heal from them. Also important to realize, the Ascendant points to a persons identity and how others see them, while the Descendant points to a persons relationships and how they relate to others. Basically, these were tough placements that this Sagittarius musician was constantly battling in his lifetime.

As a Uranus conjunct the Ascendant native myself, I really want to do more research on the correlation between this placement and people who suffer from addiction, depression, and even suicide. Obviously not everyone with this placement will experience these things, but unfortunately Aaron did. Rather than go into the specifics of his death, I want to celebrate his life by sharing my favorite Aaron Carter song and video. This banger used to come on after school and I’d imagine I was throwing my own kick ass house party as I danced alone in my living room.

Birth Chart Bonus: Billie Eilish

Billie Eilish's Birth Chart in the whole house system. Born December 18, 2001 at 11:30 AM in Los Angeles CA. Highlights include her Sagittarius Sun in the 10th house, Aquarius Moon in the 12th house, Pisces Rising.

Billie’s Sun is prominently placed at the top of her chart, in other words, on the MC (midheaven). In other words, Billie is a shining star, and the world knows it.

With her South Node conjunct her Sun, we can also see that she is comfortable in the spotlight. This Vanity Fair interview video is great because it show Billie evolving through the years. Sure, she’s had her insecurities and identity crises like the rest of us, but one thing she casually mentions is how it’s easier to sing in front of 8,000 people as opposed to 8 people. This is such a Sagittarian thing to say since Sagittarius musicians are known for being brave and expansive when it comes to their craft.
